At 21.18 hours on 14 Mar, 1942, the unescorted British Resource (Master James Kennedy) was hit fore and aft by two torpedoes from U-124 north of Bermuda. The ship stopped and the gunners began firing at the periscope, so at 21.33 hours a coup de grāce was fired which hit near the engine room and set the tanker completely on fire. She burned until she sank the next day. The master, 41 crew members and three gunners were lost. One crew member and three gunners were picked up by HMS Clarkia (K 88) (LtCdr F.J.G. Jones, RNR) and landed at Hamilton, Bermuda.
