British Resource (Motor tanker) - Allied Ships hit by U-boats - uboat.net

At 21.18 hours on 14 Mar, 1942, the unescorted British Resource (Master James Kennedy) was hit fore and aft by two torpedoes from U-124 north of Bermuda. The ship stopped and the gunners began firing at the periscope, so at 21.33 hours a coup de grāce was fired which hit near the engine room and set the tanker completely on fire. She burned until she sank the next day. The master, 41 crew members and three gunners were lost. One crew member and three gunners were picked up by HMS Clarkia (K 88) (LtCdr F.J.G. Jones, RNR) and landed at Hamilton, Bermuda.

No wonder she went up in flames ..... look at what she was carrying !

British Resource MV was a British Motor Tanker built in 1931 by Greenock Dockyard Co Ltd, Greenock and owned by the British Tanker Co Ltd, London. On the 14th March 1942 she was on route from CURACAO for HALIFAX and UK carrying 10,000 tons of benzine and white spirit when she was torpedoed by U-124 and sunk. 45 lost, 4 survivors.

    In Memoriam

There are no roses on a sailor's grave
No lilies on an ocean wave
The only tribute is the seagull's sweeps
And the teardrops that a sweetheart weeps

    Hello Annie,
For information on his service records I would advise a post on Mercantile Marine
The minimum info required would be a date and place of birth.
    Regards
    Hugh
