Thread: Remembrance Day

I'll spend a minute silence at 11 am either with a radio or TV for setting the scene and for the bugle call.
It's been quite some time since i was in the CBD (the inner city 'central business district' ) on Remembrance day.
They used to have Police on traffic duty at each of the bigger intersections who stopped all the traffic just before 11am and a bugle call would be sounded through loud speakers throughout he entire inner city of Melbourne. I do not know if this still happens if not then I feel it should be.

Lest we forget

I will, as I have done every year except one, be at our local remembrance day parade, sadly no longer in uniform.
However there will be others there whom I have greeted over the years, which will give me a warm feeling.
I once many years ago had the priviledge of taking the parade in Manchester, the one and only time I have given
the additional command " Rolls by the centre, quick march. " again pleasant to remember.
With our continuing list of conflicts, the parades of remembrance will continue forever, expressing our sadness and gratitude.
I will always remember.

Haven't been on this forum for a couple of days so just seen your thread.

Due my war service disability my mobility is now restricted so I was at home and in fact upgrading the records of some of my unfortunate ladies and as my wife is no longer with us it was just me and my two tibbies so it was very silent, being aware of the occasion my thoughts were with them all and my uncle who died at Monte Cassino with the 2nd Camerons.

Hi John,
The command is used only when a Regimental Band is leading
It is not used very often.
The full command if I remember correctly was.
Parade.
Parade, Attention.
Parade will move to to the right.( no designated number of files )
Parade, Right, turn.
Rolls, by the centre, quick march.

Then oft you jolly well go.

sniper and I observed the silence, being on a week off work together. started the 2 minutes by the sound of a gun going off at Foxhall Barracks, then heard a bugle ending the 2 minutes. Quite something to hear.
