I just have to post this .... it's one of those "wow" things .......
Apparently he had had some sort of legal profession/role but prior to the great war had stood down from this because of failing abilities ...... does anybody know anything about him ??

Usually the Guys and Gals at GWF come up with something however not this time.
United Kingdom There were a number of cases where an old soldier was retained for admin duties and to provide a continuity for new recruits. Maybe he was sone of them.

Well this is the census info ... found for me by a lady on Roots ....
1881: Widower. age 50 .Capt. half pay, late Royal Dragoons
1891 : Married age 60. Retired Q/Master Army. Hon. Capt. General Manager of "Cafe " Company (the quotes are on the census)
1901 : Married age 70 Capt. on retired pay Army.
He was born c. 1831 and on each census says born Norfolk Norwich
