I took a photo of this plaque at the memorial when I was in Darwin in February.
The memorial has a plaque there for every unit/formation that participated there during the war.
Also my dad's battalion went there to defend Darwin when they came back from the Middle East. (Dad was blown up at Tobruk so he was in Melbourne recuperating)

The troops were strategically placed at intervals south of Darwin for the 100kms to Adelaide River.
They also had runways on the side of the highway every 10kms or so. This enabled aircraft squadrons to pull back if the Japanese invaded and have somewhere to land.
The airstrips were named Coomalie, Batchelor, Hughes, Strauss, Sattler to name a few.
