waffen ss press photo

Hello, I had bought this photo, it turns out to actually be a press photo with the Heinrich Hoffman stamp on back. I have collected photos but dont really know a whole lot on press photos. How much would you say its worth to keep it as opposed to returning it? Thanks

If it has the original press caption then it is worth keeping. But if you paid for what you thought was from a private collection then you could return it because you probably paid more than for a press photo.

I found this wk2ss ... it might be worth your while to get in touch with this collector and see what he can tell you ... he seems to be knowledgable about Hoffman !!

Quote:
Hoffmann was a press agency operated by Hitler’s personal photographer, Heinrich Hoffmann. This agency had two locations, one in Berlin and one in Vienna. Contrary to popular belief, most Hoffmann press photos were not taken by Heinrich Hoffmann, they were just released by his agency. The Hoffmann agency was in operation through the years of the Third Reich.

Heinrich Hoffmann used a few variations of stampings to mark their photos. Their first style of stamp utilized by Hoffmann is shown below. This stamp is believed to have ceased in 1936.

90?!! That's about £72. For a press photo, even a German one, is way too much. 10 or 15 maximum I would say.
