Interesting Halifax photograph.

I found this photograph for sale on e bay,and was wondering with our forums collective wisdom if we could come up with some more information.

It appears the squadron pictured is in tropical type dress. Where was the Halifax deployed overseas?

Also odd to me are the numbers under the aircrafts wings, any comments?

That's a postwar picture - hence the number under the wing. From another picture on the listing, it appears to be RT884, a Halifax A.VII or IX (Robertson's Aircraft Serials puts it in the VII block, but an online source claims it's a IX).

I don't have copies of Air-Britain's serial listings but I think CXX does. He maybe able to ascertain the service history, bewteen the end of the war and its scrapping in May 1951. It was also given the code G-ALYI

My thoughts too about it being post war with the numbers under the wing. That is what struck me odd as I wasn't aware of the Halifax still being in operational service after the war. I thought it had been long since retired.

The HP 71 was the transport version, and these were still used after the war through to 1947/48.
