THE SACRIFICE of airmen stationed at Ibsley was commemorated at a service in Ringwood.
Local MP Desmond Swayne joined veterans and civic leaders in paying his respects to the memory of nearly 100 personnel who lost their lives during WWII.
The member for New Forest West laid a wreath in Ringwood Parish Church, and poppy crosses were left on the graves of the fallen airmen buried in the church cemetery.
"The New Forest played a remarkable part in WWII. There were a number of aerodromes in the area, of which Ibsley is the most famous," said Mr Swayne.
The Ringwood and Burley Band played hymns especially chosen for their significance to the occasion.
Organiser Vera Smith's grandson, Alfie, 11, read from a postcard donated last year by relatives of a former pilot to the RAF Ibsley Historical Group.
