P39Q recovered

I've been sent this very interesting link on the recovery of a P39 from a lake in Russia. It's been possible to trace its complete history. Apparently it is now in the UK awaiting restoration

A very good find and in remarkable good weather. Another one that I hope they restore and put on display.

Why can't more things go down in fresh water?! Good find, AR.

Discussed this on "another" forum last year. Lot of politicking and money changing hands etc etc. Glad it has been resolved.

"You were given the choice between war and dishonor.
You chose dishonor and you will have war."

(Winston Churchill made this prophetic pronouncement in a House of Commons speech in 1938, just after Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain signed the Munich agreement with Hitler. Chamberlain returned from Germany with the signed agreement in hand, proclaiming that "peace in our time" had been achieved. Churchill attacked Chamberlain's "politics of appeasement" in this and many other speeches.)

What did the Australians do in ww2 and other conflicts? Check out this site:

I hope they get the restoration carried out, even just for a static display and they retain the Soviet markings.

Cheers Adrian

Interesting how you can see where the USAF emblem had been previous to being repainted. Almost like age rings in a tree!

Great analogy, H90, she really has survived her time under water really well.

Thought I'd seen it before; I don't think I can have got involved with the previous thread.

Welcome over here, Hawkeye!
