AWM requests public help to identify digger

War Memorial seeks soldier's identity - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Quote:
The Australian War Memorial (AWM) is asking the public to help identify a soldier who fought in World War I.

The soldier's photograph features in the AWM's latest exhibition Icon and Archive.

The photo is a studio portrait taken in Sydney of a World War I soldier in uniform and slouch hat.

Curator Dr Shaune Lakin says there are many photographs of unidentified soldiers in the Memorial's collection.

"Identifying soldiers included in photographs allows us to learn more about Australian's experiences at war," he said.

"Photographs allowed loved ones at home to remember their relatives and later for soldiers returning home to share their experiences."

Icon and Archive, featuring iconic photography from both world wars, opens to the public next Friday, June 6.

Hi All,

If you search the AWM collections with 'unknown' or 'unidentified' you come up with a number of chaps yet to be named. In the past I've had a look at the unidentified RAAF chaps in Korea and found a few familiar faces which I was able to name.

In the shot below, I was able to identify both pilots for the AWM. Particularly the short, nuggety bloke on the left.

Dad and 385.jpg

Cheers

Owen

...who looks remarkably like you - give or take 50 cm!

Would love to be able to identify people for the AWM.

Thanks Andy,

That build had him being able to withstand a few more G's. Less distance for the heart to pump to the brain as he would often remind me.

Cheers
