George Sobering D.F.C., C.D., M.B.A., B.Eng. -
Peacefully at Sunnybrook Veterans Hospital, in his 87th year, on August 28, 2007, dearly loved husband of Irene (Reddock) for over 62 years. Father of Donald (Linda) and Robert (Cindy) and grandfather to his beloved Taylor. Brother of Dorothy Nelson of Leesburg, VA, USA and Fred of Oskaloosa, KA, USA and Uncle to many nephews and nieces. George was a Veteran of W.W.II from 1941 - 1945 in the RCAF and RAF. He did his full tour with #115 Squadron on the Lancaster with the rank of F/L. George lived a long and satisfying life. He loved flying, soaring, scuba diving, traveling and was able to see a good portion of the world. He liked to try everything, even parachute jumping. He loved Canada and had to have a piece of it in his small farm. After the war he went to McGill University where he obtained his B. Eng. Later he went to McMaster University where he graduated with his M.B.A. He worked at a number of industries and ended his career at the National Research Council. From 1983-2003 George was happily involved with the restoration of the Lancaster at Canadian Warplane Heritage. He flew in the Lancaster from coast-to-coast meeting people and telling them about the “Lanc”. He also served on the board of directors at Canadian Warplane Heritage for many years. George belonged to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 36, Dundas, Air Force Association of Canada Wing 447, Bomber Command Association, SOSA Gliding Club, Brantford Flying Club, Engineering Institute and the Liberal Party. In all, George lived an interesting, fulfilling and exciting life and enjoyed it to the fullest.

Family will receive visitors at the Marlatt Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 195 King St. West, Dundas on Thursday, 6 - 9p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Marlatt Dundas Chapel on Friday at 11a.m. Many thanks to Dr. Charles and all of the wonderful nurses at the Dorothy Macham Home at Sunnybrook Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Lancaster Support would be greatly appreciated. Royal Canadian Legion Branch 36, Dundas, service will be held at the Funeral Home 7p.m. Thursday evening.
