£46,000 for war medals - Sheffield Telegraph Quote:
A GROUP of old war medals belonging to two Sheffield-born brothers sold for £46,000 - more than double the auctioneers' estimate.
London based auction house Dix Noonan Webb had thought the hammer would fall at around £20,000 for the set of medals, awarded to Henry 'Harry' Howard and his brother during World War Two. Harry won the Distinguished Service Medal group for his part in the famous St Nazaire raid, later dubbed The Greatest Raid of All. His brother Sergeant J A Howard was awarded three medals for his efforts during the Second World War.
