New Member Here!!

Hello There -

Just wanted to introduce myself and say hi.

My interest in WW2 starts with my Uncle Bob. He was a radio operator in a B-17 stationed at Chelveston, England. He was shot down on March 23, 1944was captured and improsoned in Stalag Luft IV. He was on the 86 day, 600 mile forced march across Germany in 1945. He is still alive and well. I have since been in contact with another former POW at SL IV, Mr. Joseph P. O'Donnell, who has written a series of books about camp life at SL IV and the "Death March". I am currently working on a screenplay about the "Death March" with of help of Mr. O'Donnell.

I look forward to reading the posts here, and hopful I can share some info too.

See you in the forums.

Andy

Hi Andy,

You come to the forum with some interesting history. I made contact with an Australian who with others were captured at El Alamein, torpedoed on the "Nino Bixio" survived to be imprisoned in Italy, then escaped to Switzerland. They became the AIF POW "Free men in Europe".

A very interesting read: AIF POW Free Men in Europe - Welcome Letter

"You were given the choice between war and dishonor.
You chose dishonor and you will have war."

(Winston Churchill made this prophetic pronouncement in a House of Commons speech in 1938, just after Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain signed the Munich agreement with Hitler. Chamberlain returned from Germany with the signed agreement in hand, proclaiming that "peace in our time" had been achieved. Churchill attacked Chamberlain's "politics of appeasement" in this and many other speeches.)

What did the Australians do in ww2 and other conflicts? Check out this site:
