Middle East Plane Crash circa 1956

Hi
Just wondered if anyone had any knowledge of a plane crash in I think Aden in the mid fifties? It was bringing a group of National Servicemen home on leave and crashed on take off, I think.

The brother of someone I knew was on board and something triggered the memory the other day but I couldn't recall any more details.

Any clues where I can look to find out more?

Thanks
CTNana

CTNana, did the brother die in the crash? If so, then could you give us the name. With the name we can check the records, and there are books that list post-war military accidents. And with the name we can establish the date using the new Serve Personel Memorial database.

Hi Kyt
I just knew that you would know!!!!

Yes, sadly he and I think all others on board did die. Not 100% sure that his first name was Tony / Anthony Jacklyn.

Bet I've got the year wrong and have probably mis-spelled his name!!!!

Cheers

CTNana, are you sure about the spelling of the surname? It doesn't appear on the Armed Forces Memorial database (which covers all military deaths since the end of the War)

No I'm not sure! But there aren't too many variations that it can be. Jackelyn / Jacelyn / Jackelin / Jacklin / Jackling. Can you search with a wild card operator?

Service Number 23137847
Regiment/Corps 10 HUSSARS
Place of Birth/Home Town Barking, Essex
Date of Birth 29 November 1936
Age 20
Date of Death 17 April 1957
Cemetery Name Habbaniya
Cemetery Address Iraq
Grave Section 5
Grave Row B
Grave Number 1-7

Right region but wrong first names.

Thanks Kyt
His name probably was Alan (Tony was the golfer wasn't he?!!!!). I'm surprised that he was born in Essex though.

Is there a way of finding out more about what happened?

Do you have to have the Service Number before you can make an enquiry?

if it is the one that I am thinking of, it was a york and it chrashed with the loss of everyone except the wireless op! I used to work beside him in Bldg 118 at Pitreavie Castle, he used to put a memorial advert in the Telegraph every 21st of November, the anniversary of the chrash.

Sorry but I do not have any other details
