"You were given the choice between war and dishonor.
You chose dishonor and you will have war."

(Winston Churchill made this prophetic pronouncement in a House of Commons speech in 1938, just after Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain signed the Munich agreement with Hitler. Chamberlain returned from Germany with the signed agreement in hand, proclaiming that "peace in our time" had been achieved. Churchill attacked Chamberlain's "politics of appeasement" in this and many other speeches.)

I liked Mark Clarks comment that he envied the Germans supply system, he had to clothe 29 different nationalities and provide suitable rations for 50 odd different religions!

I know that this not WW2 related but here is the daily ration for both horse and trooper taken from the Standing Order of the Dragoon Guards dated 1923.

The rations include small beer, which was watered down beer!

46. — Warn the proprietors of billets of the quantity of forage and provisions required and the hour the men's dinners are to be ready, inspect the forage, see it is as good in quality as that usually supplied in barracks, and that there is the proper amount of it : —
10 Ibs. oats
12 Ibs. hay \ per horse per day.
8Ibs. straw)

.
The rations for the men are —
1 ¼ lbs meat.
1 ½ lbs bread.

1 Ibs potatoes.
2 pints of small beer.
Water, salt, pepper and vinegar.
