Vulcan set to return to the skies

arrrggghhhh - still no actual date!!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/l...re/7049694.stm

Quote:
A Vulcan bomber is to fly again after years of restoration work by engineers - weather permitting.

It last flew 14 years ago after a 33-year career in the RAF, including service in the Falklands War.

Some 20,000 people worldwide helped raise the £6.5m needed to restore the Cold War bomber.

It will make the first of three test flights from Bruntingthorpe airfield in Leicestershire after being cleared by the Civil Aviation Authority.

Taff Stone, chief of the Vulcan crew, said: "There's a lot of work gone into the aircraft.

"We taken it right down to the basics. We've checked everything, we've cleaned everything, we've finally put it all back together and we've just about achieved the unachievable."

Al McDicken, one of the plane's pilots, added: "She's absolutely magnificent and visually a very attractive aeroplane.

"All of us who have flown her have enjoyed her handling qualities but she really flies like a big fighter in some ways. It's a thrill to be involved with it."

She was apparently moving under her own power very recently so the first flight can't be far away. Would be truly magnificent to see.

I hope they televise it and broadcast it on national TV, it would be a very good thing to see!

Imagine for a minute, the four lightnings from South Africa and the Vulcan flying in a formation!

Morse, presumably you've seen them fly in the past. Don't they just make concorde sound like a purring pussy cat in comparison? I remember the post-Falklands flypast. I think I was deaf for a week.
