You're Top Poster: #3   | Baron Dowding, Hugh (Caswell Tremenheere) Dowding Biography (1882–1970) Baron Dowding, Hugh (Caswell Tremenheere) Dowding Biography (1882–1970) British air chief marshal of World War 2, born in Moffat, Dumfries and Galloway, SW Scotland, UK. He served in the Royal Artillery and the Royal Flying Corps in World War 1. As commander-in-chief of Fighter Command (1936–40), he organized the air defence of Britain, which resulted in the victorious Battle of Britain (1940). He retired in 1942, and was created a peer in 1943.

You're Top Poster: #5  | Despite the fact, that Stuffy Dowding, was the architect of the Radar and fighter control system which allowed figher command to successfully counter the luftwaffe attacks, he never recieved the full recognition for his contribution. Instead, he was treated badly by Churchill who prefered trafford leigh mallory, whose handing of fighter command was a shambles compared to Stuffy Dowdings.

You're Top Poster: #2 | Keith Park got shafted too despite being popular with the pilots. Having said that, he was then instrumental in the defence of Malta from July '42. Gallipoli and Somme veteran and then ace with 5 victories and many more probables. Not bad for a Kiwi! Got a soft spot for this fighter leader in case you can't tell!
