Tora, Tora, Tora

My dear wife bought me a digitally enhanced version of this movie the other day (so yes it does pay to master the kitchen for an evening) and so of course I was forced to watch it. I had seen it years ago, but it was great to see it again.

What I found as interesting as the movie was the separate DVD about the filming of the movie and how it almost bankrupted the studio. Back then, it cost US$ 25 million to make the movie .... but the incredible part was when they said that was FOUR TIMES the cost of the Japanese to actually carry out the attack on Peal Harbor. How the US and Japan worked together to make the film was as interesting as the movie itself. Watch it if you can get a copy.

I have it on video! Yes! Call me old fashioned! Despite all the modern technology where they can even get a computer generated image to wipe its nose, Tora! Tora! Tora outranks them all for its breath of scope and the real aircraft and explosions!

I saw this one as a young fella with my Dad.

It's my earliest memory of going to the movies, so it holds a special place. I must get it again and watch it as a grown up...well, nearly.

Cheers

Owen

Great movie.

A little bit better than the Pearl Harbor effort.

I see this spawned a new topic about shows and movies, so Mr. Moderator you are free to move this over to that area if you wish.

Pearl Harbour (Harbor for the Americans) was terrible!

There was an earlier version of that with the social aspect - Day of Infamy - or something like that, in B&W I recall.

I also got the DIGITALLY enhanced version of "Lawrence of Arabia" - oh, no wait that is WWI - but I was told I have to watch that one by myself - too long the CEO said. Maybe if I did a lobster with a nice Pinot Grigio?

Hi Richard,

No doubt that your post spurred me into action.

The mods had a discussion about this last week however I was a bit slow in getting it going. From experience it is a popular area which leads ultimately to picking many of the errors made in the movie.

Tora Tora Tora

I find a bit of irony in the fact that Yamamoto studied here in the U.S and from what I understand was quite the Poker player.

Best to all

The commitment to film the Japanese side is most impressive in TTT. I have the same DVD.
