In the book, The Lorriane Squadron, there is a ancedote from F/sgt Perrie leval who was a air gunner with the squadron. he was shot down over North Africa and was taken to hospital. He thought he was the only frenchman in the place and was surprised to hear french being spoken a couple of beds away.
he went over an introduced himself and noticed the Foriegn legion uniform on the chair, intorduced himself and and then got the reply, "I am Adolf Hitler"! He was startled by this and then the legionaire said "check my paybook, its in my top pocket", which leval did and yes it was right "Adolf Hitler"!
