Australian Review of Hitler documentary

As It Happened: Hitler's Family

Type Documentary
Channel SBS
Date Friday October 26
Time 8:30 PM

Hitler's family was a kooky bunch. His second cousin, Aloisia Veit, was locked up in an asylum for nine years; his half-brother, Alois, was a social-climbing bigamist and his sociopathic half-sister Angela used her name to have neighbours forcibly removed.

This program makes much of this but the premise is somewhat overdone: who would have thought that Adolf Hitler, history's most famous homicidal maniac, came from anything other than a perfect family?

More pertinent, not to mention poignant, is the way the Fuehrer treated his relatives: embarrassed by his sister Paula, he forced her to live under an assumed name; as for the mentally ill Aloisia, she was sent to the gas chambers for being "unworthy of life".
Only in Australia would/could you find the term "kooky" used in relation to anything concerning Hitler
