Mortar round uncovered in Melbourne

A World War II bomb has been dug up in a yard at St Albans in Melbourne's west.

It was found during home renovations in Station street.

The Defence Force says the three-inch mortar round had no fuse, and dates back to 1942.

Earlier police detonated two pipe bombs found buried in a backyard in the suburb of Canadian in Ballarat, west of Melbourne.
