AWM requests public help to identify digger

War Memorial seeks soldier's identity - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Quote:
The Australian War Memorial (AWM) is asking the public to help identify a soldier who fought in World War I.

The soldier's photograph features in the AWM's latest exhibition Icon and Archive.

The photo is a studio portrait taken in Sydney of a World War I soldier in uniform and slouch hat.

Curator Dr Shaune Lakin says there are many photographs of unidentified soldiers in the Memorial's collection.

"Identifying soldiers included in photographs allows us to learn more about Australian's experiences at war," he said.

"Photographs allowed loved ones at home to remember their relatives and later for soldiers returning home to share their experiences."

Icon and Archive, featuring iconic photography from both world wars, opens to the public next Friday, June 6.
