| Ostfliegerstaffel 1 only existed for 8 months (1943-1944). and there seems to be some conflict as to whether they were actually an operational unit in its trueist sense or just a propaganda unit. Afraid I don't know who its leaders were.
However, though the U2 may have been obsolete by the standards of the day, it was an excellent aircraft used very very effectively for recon and sneak attacks. The fact that it could be flown so close to the ground, and that the pilots often cut their engines just before the moment of attack for extra surprise, meant that it was was feared by the German frontline troops.
