    WTF?

Holocaust hurt Catholics more than Jews: Archbishop | The Courier-Mail

A BRAZILIAN archbishop dropped a bombshell overnight when he said Catholics and gypsies had been more persecuted than Jews during World War II.
"The Jews talk about six million people killed. But how many Catholics were victims of the Holocaust? They were 22 million in all,'' Archbishop Dadeus Grings, from Porto Alegre in southern Brazil, told advertising magazine Press & Advertising.

The archbishop also contended that while "Jews say they were the main victims of the Holocaust, the biggest victims were the gypsies, because they were exterminated".

The Jewish federation of the state of Rio Grande do Sul was quick to fire back, stressing that "this was not the first time Dadeus referred to the Holocaust in a distorted way".

"To diminish the Holocaust is an attack against the millions of people killed in a war unleashed by fanaticism and intolerance,'' the group added in a statement.

The German's protected M.C. a large Catholic cathedral from the middle ages. They did not interfere or use it for military purposes because of an agreement with the Vatican. The Vatican also helped Nazi leaders to escape to safety after the war (O.D.E.S.S.A). Doesn't sound to me like the Nazi's treated catholics like jews.

It does, however, bring attention to the fact it wasn't just people of the Jewish faith who suffered.

It was the New Zealander Freyburg who arranged for this Catherdral to be destroyed by Air and Arty, he had convinced himeself and others that the Germans were using it as a obsevation post, this he convinced the higher ups after the Germans sent some trucks in to remove treasures over to the Vatican. After it's destruction the Germans of course used it for MG nests and everything else they could.

I feel the vatican helped these people escape due to most Germans actually being Catholics.
As far as this bishop is concerned he is way off, for a start the gypsy's were not wiped out, and the Nazi's if you got on the wrong side of them it did not matter what religon, or nationality you were, they just killed you off.
